The Microcredit and Business Coaching Initiative is a collaborative initiative between Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) employees, Core Health and Wealth International and BI’s Making More Health’s (MMH) Systems Changer Network (SCN) that seeks to build entrepreneurial capacity of individuals in low income settings in rural communities, peri-urban and urban centers that are usually excluded from formal financing. The focus of this initiative is to empower the participants with business skills through business training and coaching and facilitating the entrepreneurs with microcredit to help them with start up of their businesses or to expand their businesses. This will be accompanied with business coaching for the entrepreneurs to ensure that the business is successful. The project is being piloted in Kibisi location in Mbakalo Ward in Bungoma county and upon successful pilot it will eventually be rolled out to other areas.
The launch of the initiative started with a training of 15 entrepreneurs and inviting them to present their business plans. The training was developed and facilitated by the BI team comprising Dr. Vasiliki Tsagkaraki (Bessie), Dr. Thomas Trieselmann, Dr. Daniel Hach, Dr. Joanna Martyna Krawczyk among others.
